AKIRA
is one of the best comic-adaptions in movies, i think. this is because the film isn’t just redoing the comic book, but changing it into a fitting version for cinemas. for example important characters for the manga like Akira himself play different, shorter roles in the anime. however the movie is not violating the comic, but instead changing the plot and characters in order to create a really good movie. it porbably isnt necessary to say that i didnt like the movies “sin city” or “300” where the comics werent changed a little bit, but just transformed into the motion picture by reenacting panel after panel. which already made “sin city” not the movie it couldve been and made “300” suck big time.
in conclusion i’m just scared that “Akira will be developed into two live action films with the first scheduled for a summer 2009 release” with leonardi dicaprio as producer and the setting moved to “new manhattan”.
